Course description

This course is a professional elective course for the major of industrial design and product design, providing theoretical and technical support for the study of user experience design, product usability analysis and other aspects. This course is aimed at senior undergraduate students, from the simple to the profound, and introduces the mathematical statistics theories, methods and software required to be mastered in the design analysis process related to user research, including data processing, descriptive analysis, hypothesis testing, variance analysis, regression analysis, correlation analysis, factor analysis and other contents. Through learning of this course, students can understand, distinguish and think about the important concepts in statistical analysis and data mining,to understand the basic principles of statistics, the method and the calculation of the basic statistical indicators, to master the experimental design and use of eye movement instrument, and using the SPSS statistical software for the user experience design and product usability analysis of specific data analysis and case analysis. This course can play a positive role in shaping students' academic thinking and is of great significance to students' future research and practice in the field of design.

Targeting on the senior undergraduates majoring in industrial design and product design, this course will progressively introduce the basis of mathematical statistics that related to industrial design and interaction design, such as descriptive analysis, inferential analysis, parameter estimation, hypothesis testing, analysis of variance, regression analysis and etc. This course will also include some knowledge of pattern recognition and machine learning. It aims to help students to understand, distinguish important concepts in statistics analysis and data mining, mastering basic theories and methods of statistics and statistical metrics computing, as well as analyzing the data analysis cases related to user experience design, ergonomics and usability analysis by SPSS, which is essential to their research and practice in the field of industrial and interaction design. Various approaches are employed in this course including lecturing, demonstrating, discussion, design practice, and commenting.
