Dr. Roger Maclaren Ball, Professor of Georgia Institute of Technology - School of Industrial Design, USA. He used to be the deputy director of Department of Industrial Design of Georgia Tech, and director of the "Asian Ergonomics Laboratory" of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has long been engaged in product design related to human body adaptation. For Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Philips, Magic Leap, Luxottica, Cartier, Decathlon, 3M, Neurosky, Huawei and dozens of international well-known companies, he provided his consulting services in human-computer design. “SizeChina”, the anthropometrics project he led, created the world's first Chinese human head size database, creating a solid foundation for a series of "China Fit" product designs. The “SizeChina” research has won many international top design awards, including the 2008 Business Week IDEA "Best in Show" Outstanding Design Award (shared with Apple iPhone) and the 2012 The International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) World Design Breakthrough Award. In recent years, professor Roger Ball and his team have focused on the continuous innovation of SizeChina and related human factors research results. Up to now, the database is still the most up-to-date, sampled, featured and accurate Chinese 3D head database in the world, and provides comprehensive support for global wearable head product design and ergonomics analysis. He guided the faculty and students’ team of our school to conduct a new round of head data measurement and technology upgrading in 2017-2018 and introduced the world's top high-precision 3D ear canal scanning technology to our school, which can realize the rapid real-time collection and reconstruction of three-dimensional information of auricle and ear canal, and build the 3D morphology database of the whole ear.
