Course Introduction

Sonic interaction design is a design and research process related to sound. In this process, sound is regarded as one of the important channels to convey the aesthetic and emotional qualities of information, meaning and interactive content. In sonic interaction design, sound can be used not only as a display of the process, but also as a medium of input to optimize interaction. This course will combine four hot topics to teach design strategies and evaluation methodologies related to sonic interaction design, including (1) sonic interaction design and evaluation in intelligent voice products; (2) sonic interaction design and evaluation in co-creation design methodologies; (3) sonic interaction design and evaluation in affective and artistic design methodologies; (4) sonic interaction design and evaluation for accessible design methodologies. Through this course, students will understand how to use interactive methods that prioritize sound over vision to convey information, emotion, and improve efficiency, master the basic concepts and main methods of sonic interaction design, and then have the ability to design and evaluate sonic interaction products.
