The award ceremony of the 2018 China Universities Industrial Design Competition was held in Guangzhou on 23rd, November, 2018. The College of Design & Art has won three Golden Awards, four Silver Awards and five Bronze Awards. Among them, the Gold Award work "Contemporary Chinese Three-Dimensional Head Database and Wearable Product Design Assistant System" won the only special award among all participants. Apart from that, another works won excellent awards as well. Three teachers, Wang Haining, Jitie and Zhao Danhua, have won Outstanding Instructor. Our college became the biggest winner in this competition, overwhelming in terms of award grade and number. And this is also the best result our college has ever achieved since participating in the first national competition in 2012.
The competition is co-sponsored by the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, the Subcommittee of Instructional Guidance for Industrial Design Major of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangdong Province. More than 40,000 works from 29 provinces (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) participated in the competition. At last, ten Golden Awards (instructors won Outstanding Instructor), 35 Silver Awards and 74 Bronze Awards were selected, and the only special award was selected from the golden award works through on-site defense.
For a long time, Our college has attached great importance to competitions, through which students' design innovation ability, practical ability and team spirit can be trained effectively. At the same time, we should jump at the opportunity of establishing and perfecting the digitalization and internationalization design innovation personnel training system oriented to the national strategy, take improving the quality of personnel training as the core, and further promote the reform of training mode, teaching content and teaching methods of industrial design specialty. Thanks to the active promotion of the new training mode and teaching reform, students have emerged in various international and domestic competitions and continuously achieved excellent results.
Special Award & Golden Award:
The interactive design work, which adheres to the concept of "Design for China-fit”, is based on the research accumulation of the Institute of Design & Art of Hunan University in the fields of anthropometry and human factors engineering, integrating artificial intelligence, supercomputing, parametric design, and responsiveness. It reflects the cross-border innovation of technology and art.
