Course Introduction
"Mechanical Principles and Design" is a compulsory basic course for students who major in industrial design, which includes three modules: mechanical drawing and descriptive geometry, mechanical principles and design, theoretical mechanics and material mechanics. “Mechanical drawing and descriptive geometry” focuses on the methods of reading and drawing engineering pictures. Based on projection theory and national standards, with manual drawing and computer drawing as the form of expression, this course emphasizes both theory and practice, can cultivate students' spatial logic thinking ability and lay the foundation for the subsequent course modules. "Mechanical principles and design" focuses on the composition and movement of mechanical mechanisms. It’s virtual for students to understand the working principles and characteristics of common mechanisms and components, and master their design principles and calculation methods in this part. On the basis of component analysis and simple mechanical system design, this course help students carry out the disassembly and innovative design of complex products. "Theoretical mechanics and material mechanics" focuses on common mechanical models, force balance and material mechanics, as well as stress and deformation of structure, strength check, and stability of columns’ calculation etc.. With courses studying, students will have the ability to read and draw engineering pictures, analysis and optimization of mechanical devices, innovative design of mechanisms, design practice, etc., and improve design thinking and practical operation under the background of "new engineering and new design", and lay the foundation for teaching and training of other courses in later period.
