Dr. Thomas Walter Garvey is an associate professor at the School of Industrial Design, University of Carleton, Canada. He is the designate president of the World Design Organization (WDO) (2022-2023) . Professor Garvey specializes in the design of health medical environments and the study of data analysis of human factors and human activity in complex narrow spaces. He has led the Global University Program of Healthcare Architecture (GUPHA) and is also the Distinguished Expert of the international cooperative project Interdesign Mumbai, Humanizing a Metropolis (ICSID, 2014). His work has contributed to the design of everything from human-machine-environment systems in hospitals to space optimization for human activities on the International Space Station. His research was funded by the Canadian Ministry of Industry, Trade and Commerce, the Japanese Ministry of Education, and the Michael Kalil Foundation.
