On April 5, 2022, from 19:00 to 20:15 Beijing time, the online sharing talk of research life of oversea design PhDs, hosted by the School of Design, Hunan University, was held as scheduled through Tencent Meeting. The event received enthusiastic comments during the meeting and was well received by students and parents.
The sharing talk was hosted by Assistant Professor Luan Zhilong of Hunan University and invited three Chinese PhDs who studies at the UK, Italy, and the US. They are: Dr.Zhang Wanlin, Dr.Huang Siyuan, and PhD Candidate Lin Hongnan.
Dr. Zhang Wanlin: 2010-2014 Bachelor of Arts, Industrial Design, Central South University. 2014-2017 MA, School of Design, Hunan University. 2017-2022 PhD in Design, Lancaster University, UK. 2020-2021 Researcher of British Arts and Humanities Fund (AHRC) project. Her research focuses on the intersection of sustainability, social culture, and design.
Dr.Huang Siyuan: 2010-2014 BA, School of Journalism and Communication, Hunan University. 2014-2017 MA, School of Design, Hunan University. 2015-2016 Joint Master, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Politecnico di Milano. 2017-2022 PhD (Cum Laude), Department of Design, Politecnico di Milano. 2019-2020 Visiting Researcher (IDEA League), Department of Human-Centered Design, TU Delft. 2022-present Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Human-Centered Design, TU Delft. Field of Research: Design for Behavioural Change; Design for Experience and Wellbeing; Design Methods.
PhD Candidate Lin Hongnan: 2011-2015 Bachelor of Engineering, Beihang University. 2015-2019 MA, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. 2018-present PhD of Design, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. Field of research: Creativity support for haptic interface design.
The PhDs shared their learning experiences and research programs of their universities. At the same time, they also shared effective methods and useful apps to improve their learning efficiency during the pandemic. When answering questions from the audience, the three doctors mainly discussed how to apply for oversea doctoral degrees, and also introduced the characteristics and insights of overseas doctoral research life. At the end of the sharing talk, Professor Wang Wei and Professor Ji Tie from the School of Design made comments, and gave good wishes to each student studying abroad.
