Job Description:
The primary goal of the human factors engineer is to work with development teams to ensure products are easy to install, use, and service. The tasks involved include:
Review prototype mechanical hardware and recommend improvements for ease of use
Design informational labels for products
Review and recommend improvements to user and service documentation
Gather user requirements from customers via site visits, interviews, focus groups, surveys, etc.
Required Skills
Skills Required:
The skills required for the human factors engineer position are:
Basic knowledge of computer system hardware components
Ability to communicate design improvements visually using graphical software packages
Fluent in English and Chinese
Ability to work with a diverse set of professionals in marketing, design, sales, support, and engineering
Ability to perform task analyses
Ability to design and run experiments, and analyze and interpret data
Proficiency in an office suite application, preferably Microsoft Office
Ability to look at a system from a holistic level and provide specific recommendations to improve the total user experience
Education
Educational requirements for the human factors engineer position are:
Master’s degree in Engineering, Psychology, or related field with a major focus on Human Factors and Ergonomics is required.
Coursework in physical ergonomics/biomechanics, human factors methods, statistics, and anthropometry are all required.
Coursework in industrial design, psychology, engineering design, mechanical engineering are all desired.
Experience
The following work experience is desired but not required for applicants for the hardware human factors engineer.Previous experience in a product development environment is highly desirable.
Previous experience working with customers, developing requirements, or administering surveys is desirable.
